The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Registration Fairness Panel Expert Reviewers play a vital role in the application process of prospective members when a request for reassessment or appeal is made that has resulted in reconfirmation of the decision; or in an outcome that is not acceptable to the applicant.
As an Expert Reviewer in the Mining Discipline, you will be called upon by the Registration Fairness Panel for advice and recommendations as required. Expert Reviewers are asked to review files based on in their discipline of expertise and provide feedback to the Fairness Panel.

Duties and Expectations

  • Expert Reviewers review the membership application documents of prospective members and provide advice to the Registration Fairness Panel.  Reviewers are not required to attend Registration Fairness Panel meetings in person; however reviewers may be contacted by the panel by email or by telephone conference to discuss their recommendations. 
  • The reviews are done at the convenience of the reviewer - generally within one month of the request being made by the Registration Fairness Panel.

Skills and Qualifications

The Mining Expert Reviewer:
  • must be a registered professional in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC;
  • must have past experience serving as a Registration Reviewer or Interviewer;
  • must be comfortable with reviewing documents in electronic format;
  • must have current expertise within the Mining Engineering discipline.

Term of Office

  • Appointments are two years normally, renewable for up to two additional terms unless extended by Council.

Average Time Commitment

  • A typical review will take approximately 1-2 hours.  The Registration Fairness Panel will contact an Expert Reviewer on an as-needed basis. It would not be uncommon for members of this panel to not be contacted during a two year term in office.
  • The Expert Review Panel is invited to an annual dinner meeting at the Engineers and Geoscientists BC office for a yearly review of the Fairness Panel activities and to provide feedback to the panel on process and other issues of interest.

Measures of Success

The successful volunteer will:
  • Conduct professional reviews as requested; and
  • Provide expert and constructive feedback to the Registration Fairness Panel.
