NEGM Challenge Rules and Prizes

The 2016 NEGM Challenge is a weekly, team-based online photo submission contest in March. The weekly challenge will be to show an example of an engineering or geoscience theme (to be announced each week) while including all team members in your photos. Winning photos will be announced and published each week and all photo submissions will be published in our photo gallery.


  • The challenge is to submit a photo to Engineers and Geoscientists BC based on the weekly posted theme within the time limit.
  • All team members must appear in each photo.
  • The weekly theme will be posted at the top of the current page ( on 4 Mondays in March beginning on March 7 (Easter Monday theme will be posted on Tuesday March 29).
  • Photo submissions must be received at [email protected] by 12 noon on the Thursday of each week during the challenge.
  • Weekly winners will be announced on the Tuesday of each week during the challenge.
  • The team with the most points at the end (Tuesday April 5) based on the judging criteria wins the challenge.
  • By submitting material to Engineers and Geoscientists BC, you grant to the association a royalty-free, worldwide license to publish the material; and you warrant that you have the authority to grant such rights and have obtained waivers of all associated moral rights. Engineers and Geoscientists BC reserves the right not to publish any individual submission we receive and is under no obligation to publish any or all submissions or any portion thereof.
  • Photos must incorporate the weekly theme while following the above rules.
  • Points will be given as follows:
    • 1st photo received that incorporates the weekly theme while following the above rules: 30 pts
    • 2nd photo received that incorporates the weekly theme while following the above rules: 20 pts
    • All subsequent photos received that incorporate the weekly theme while following the above rules: 5 pts


  • Your team name, company name and photo listed on the Engineers and Geoscientists BC website and in Innovation magazine.
  • The NEGM Challenge Trophy to keep for a year.
  • Engineers and Geoscientists BC prizes.
  • $1000 donation to your choice of charity:
    • EUReKA! is a non-profit, student-run organization based out of Thompson Rivers University that strives to increase elementary students' interest in and excitement towards science and engineering.
    • Summer Science camps (Geering Up!, Science Alive or Science Venture).
    • Destination Imagination is a volunteer-led non-profit organization whose purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. They offer seven new standards-based province-wide challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning and Early Learning.
