Job Description

Duties:

The Peace Area (Site C) Dam Safety Engineer will work closely with the Site C Engineering Design Team through first filling and commissioning of the Site C Dam and Reservoir to complete the following:

  • Ongoing dam surveillance and performance assessment, including a formal annual data review, to determine if the actual performance meets the expected or design intent and so that conditions which might impact dam safety are identified in time for correction.
  • Implement, review and recommend changes to the surveillance plans for the Dam (to ensure that the plans are commensurate with the Consequence Classification).
  • Verifies that dam operations meet the dam safety requirements.
  • Identify and characterize any conditions which might threaten the dam or public safety and provide follow-up action.
  • Oversee the routine site inspection / reporting program and coordinates training of site inspectors.
  • Participate in the development of Operations Maintenance and Surveillance Manuals, as well as the development and implementation of emergency preparedness plans.
  • Prepare inspection reports, compliance reports and instrumentation monitoring plans for each site suitable for submission to the provincial Regulator.
  • Participate in periodic Dam Safety Reviews, deficiency investigations, capital projects at the assigned dams.
  • Following commissioning of the Dam there will be a transition period over which the Dam Safety Engineer will fully take over all responsibilities for the Dam Safety Surveillance program at site.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Geotechnical, Geological, Structural, Hydrotechnical or Civil Engineering.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a professional engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia.
  • A minimum of 8 years' work experience in dam engineering and/or monitoring and surveillance of structures.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage several projects/tasks concurrently.
  • Strong technical and report writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills.

Additional Information:

  • The job headquarters is at the Site C construction office.
  • Once the Site C Dam Safety Team is fully staffed, the Dam Safety Engineer will be working as a team with another Dam Safety Engineer and two Dam Safety Technologists located at the site. This team will work closely with the rest of the Peace Area Dam Safety Team located at the W.A.C. Bennett Dam.
  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver’s License: Class 5 in Good Standing.
  • Frequent travel for brief periods will be required.
  • As this position requires site work at the dams and reservoir slopes, must be able to hike over steep terrain.

This location is eligible for a Remote Incentive of 12%. Remote Incentives are paid bi-weekly to Full-Time Regular employees working in eligible remote locations.

Driver's Licence Type = Class 5.

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

  • IBEW/Field – No option to work from home.
  • Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
  • Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
  • Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week.
