Mainland Construction Materials (Mainland) is an aggregates, asphalt, and paving company located in Vancouver and owned by Summit Materials (Summit) based in Colorado. Mainland’s paving and construction division, Winvan Paving (Winvan), was acquired in 2017 as part of a vertical integration strategy to compliment the previously acquired aggregate business. Winvan is one of the largest road construction contractors in BC with revenues of about $50 million and growing.
Mainland is looking to expand its team to drive and manage profitable growth, to support development and to ensure succession. As a result, Mainland is looking to hire a Sales Manager & Chief Estimator to provide leadership to a team with the objectives of winning more business and expanding its delivery capabilities. Joining a strong team and enhancing an already fun and focused culture, the new Sales Manager & Chief Estimator will work closely with current management who have built the business to be the success story it is today.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Sales Manager & Chief Estimator is responsible for providing the strategic direction for the estimating and business development functions for the Winvan Division. Key elements of the role include: driving new business using a strategic approach to the market; leveraging synergies with the aggregates operations and improving project delivery disciplines and efficiencies. As a member of the Management Team, the Sales Manager & Chief Estimator will promote cross-departmental collaboration to optimize the current product services as it relates to all road works (construction, grading, paving and concrete operations), as well as, continuing to look for opportunities to expand the supplier relations of road building products throughout the Lower Mainland.
Ideally a Professional Engineer, you bring a track record of success in senior construction management, estimating and/or business development roles from road building/paving, ready mix or civil construction companies. Knowledge of the road works sector is beneficial. You have demonstrated your ability to develop complex bids and sophisticated business development strategies and lead teams that drive significant sales and margin growth.
