Job Description

Duties:

The successful candidate will join BC Hydro’s Structural Team in Civil Design, working with project teams and serving on a variety of tasks including but not limited to seismic upgrade of dams and hydropower structures. The work may also include acting as Owner’s Engineer on projects performed by external consultants.

The technical assignments may involve:

  • General design of hydropower structures including reinforced concrete and steel structures, design of penstocks, post tensioned anchors, seismic upgrades of powerhouse structures and cranes, and design of transformer foundation pads and anchorage. The work varies from concept development to implementation phase, preparing detailed IFC drawings and support during construction.
  • Contribution in the preparation of cost and schedule of small- to medium-size projects.
  • Provide support to other groups within BC Hydro in reviewing structural deliverables.
  • Producing technical reports and memorandums and presenting technical topics to internal and external project teams.
  • The successful candidate shall actively participate in meetings with internal groups and external consultants.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.A.Sc. degree in civil engineering with focus on structural engineering.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a professional engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in structural design and analysis. Experience specific to seismic design and analysis of concrete and steel structures. Experience in preparing technical and contractual specifications of general hydropower structures and post tensioned anchors would be an asset.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in working with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or equivalent.
  • Strong theoretical background in principles of dynamic analysis of structures. Relevant experience in ambient vibration testing of structures would be an asset.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation and verbal skills.
  • Capable of working independently and demonstrated problem solving skills.

  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver’s Licence: Class 5 In Good Standing.
