Based at: Vancouver Office

Position Purpose

Working closely with the Project Manager, assisting on various projects, and contributing to the technical capability and production requirements of the Service Line. Provides exceptional customer service and coordination assistance with internal and external project partners (consultants, contractors, etc.).

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with the Team lead/Project Manager/Engineering Manager in providing our clients with finished projects in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with the Project Manager; this includes collecting and coordinating useful information.
  • Maintain a working relationship with other teammates.
  • Provide Energy Analysis expertise to clients and team members as follows:
    • Collaborate in an integrated design team to identify appropriate design strategies geared towards improving energy performance, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort throughout building project duration.
    • Support various project teammates including project manager/engineer/designer in energy and thermal modelling and research of new building design strategies.
    • Model building performance for various building types such as new and existing commercial, institutional, hospital and mixed-use residential buildings.
    • Prepare various presentations during project design phase to design team and for business development to the clients.
    • Prepare building analysis reports and LEED documentation to present results of energy and thermal modelling, greenhouse gas emissions analysis, and research findings.
  • Participate in discussions with client, as required.
  • Identify project opportunities and participate with teammates to develop business for the sustainability service line as well as the company.
  • Gaining an understanding of quality control.
  • Have a good understanding of building design, and/or recommendations for a variety of the following:
    • HVAC systems, equipment, and components.
    • heat transfer through building envelopes and components.
    • sustainable design.
    • fuel and energy systems.
    • greenhouse gas emissions.
    • renewable energy collection.
  • Write technical reports for complicated building systems assessments.
  • Participate in facility evaluations and prepare technical reports with minimal supervision and requiring minimal editing.
  • Perpetuate, clarify, and embody WEC Purpose and Core Values.
  • Teammates are required to adhere to the company policies and guidelines as well as the company and client safety policies and practices in effect at any given time.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Engineering and/or related sustainability degree.
  • P.Eng. status with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and/or APEGA and/or other technical accreditation qualifications, such as Certified Energy Manager, CPHD/CPHC and BEMP. Minimum of five (5) years of sustainability and energy modelling experience.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Good interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the company to WEC teammates, clients, and community by ensuring the best image is presented.
  • Application knowledge of energy modelling software (eQuest, EnergyPlus based software such as OpenStudio or DesignBuilder, IES-VE). Experience with AutoCad and Revit is an asset.
  • Capability in energy modelling calculations with accurate, clear design notes.
  • Capability in early stage modelling analysis with concept design or incomplete design information.
  • Perform parametric or sensitivity analysis to optimize the proposed design.
  • Conduct passive design feasibility study and thermal comfort evaluation. Understanding the ethical application of technical work.
  • Ability to calculate cost opinions, change orders and earned value.
  • Ability to develop energy modelling cost proposals.
  • Ability to identify risks – satisfy client needs / company needs.
  • Ability to accurately apply codes and regulations.
  • Ability to coordinate with all Service Lines, extract and relay relevant information for complex projects.
  • Understand HVAC criteria and apply it to buildings.
  • Understand local, provincial and national codes, regulations, and guidelines affecting design and construction.
  • Understand the process for tracking correspondence and work method preparation.
  • Able to interpret multi-disciplinary drawings, plan and profile drawings.
