Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Technical Support, this senior position is accountable and is considered an authority on all aspects of natural gas storage operations. Is responsible to provide strategic engineering guidance, design oversight and leadership of internal and third party engineering resources and operations technical support. The Engineer will be primarily focused on system integrity (facility, wells, and reservoirs), process engineering, major capital projects and operations support for the Aitken Creek Gas Storage facility located near Fort St. John, BC.

We will also consider motivated engineers with less experience who are looking to grow their career in a challenging and fast-paced environment, and will work towards supporting our natural gas storage operations as a Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • This position is considered a technical expert and an authority on all aspects of natural gas storage operations; including:
  • Provide technical engineering direction and leadership to maintain and/or modify existing ACGS integrity programs to ensure efficient and effective delivery of operations, capital planning, project delivery, and third-party activity. Mitigate high consequence risks/integrity issues with applicable integrity programs.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, delivery, and financial reporting of the ACGS capital plan including sustaining capital, major projects, and development. Examine the current storage system limits and develop future major capital projects to expand the natural gas storage facility. Oversee detailed engineering standards, pre-FEED, FEED, IFC, construction and as-built stages for new storage equipment.
  • Support a culture of safety, accountability and performance by focusing on employee development to increase employee capability, ensure the accuracy and quality of work, and deliver superior customer service.
  • Accountable for all aspects of Environmental, Health and Safety at the ACGS facilities.
  • Provide technical oversight and leadership to the Operations team to resolve operating problems and fitness-for-purpose of storage facility and/or assets. Develop complex specialized plans and/or designs; analyze and provide recommendations for optimization. Validate plans and/or designs with stakeholders. Provide risk assessments for entire storage facility, well, pipelines, etc.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and manage Operations and Capital budgets within the provided guidelines, targets, and parameters.
  • Provide technical leadership/mentoring of junior technical and operations staff, designers, drafters, and external consultants.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Maintain leading edge knowledge in field of engineering expertise and contribute to technical innovation.
  • Provide direction in the development and implementation of process improvement opportunities and related change management activities.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 12–15 years’ progressive experience including at least 10 years of specialized experience in the natural gas industry. Must be a professional engineer registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and have demonstrated ability managing projects, leading people, and being accountable for technical and financial results. Eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

Technical Competencies:

  • Advanced and specialized knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, and process with respect to the natural gas industry; marketing, transmission, natural gas reservoirs, compressors, and processing;
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, while planning for tomorrow;
  • Advanced understanding of risk analysis and system integrity- be a leader in the principals of loss control;
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing the natural gas industry;
  • Advanced knowledge of contract administration for construction and professional services;
  • Advanced leadership, management, communication, and project management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability of effective technical and management report preparation and presentation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices of researching engineering issues and evaluating alternatives and ability to create innovative engineering solutions;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies, and procedures; and
  • Ability to coordinate, direct, and evaluate members of a multi-disciplinary team.
