Engineering Technician V

Permanent Full Time Position

The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced civil engineering technologist to join our Engineering Department. The Water Resources Division provides engineering services for the management of Saanich’s sanitary sewer, water, and storm drainage systems including infrastructure planning and capacity analysis, capital replacement design and construction, and operational technical support. The successful candidate will work in the infrastructure design and construction section; a technical team that delivers the Division capital program.

The work of the Engineering Technician V involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level including project scoping, engaging the services of professional engineering consultant through the request for proposal process, managing the design and delivery of engineering projects from the concept phase through to construction completion; responding to public inquiries; providing technical support to internal construction crews; liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineer of Record regarding design changes; mentoring junior staff and participating in intra or inter-departmental initiatives. The successful candidate will possess strong project management skills, is well organized, and has strong communication skills.

Requirements include a 2-year diploma in civil engineering from a recognized institution; a minimum of 8 years of directly related experience; is registered as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC; possesses a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence; has a personal vehicle available for use as and when required; and is conversant with computer-based engineering applications including AutoCAD. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, such as a university degree in a relevant field of engineering with a minimum of 6 years of directly related work experience and registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
