The Senior Operations Engineer, Water and Sewer, is responsible for leading all aspects of Water and Sewer at the City of Burnaby. The successful candidate is responsible for developing design standards, preparing the capital program, and serving as the technical specialist/resident expert, and works closely with consultants, administration staff, Operations and Maintenance staff, and outside agencies. You would also develop or direct engineering studies and reports pertaining to Water and Sewer, including the inspection and monitoring program, planned maintenance programs, and asset management initiatives, and prepare comprehensive reports with recommendations to improve Water and Sewer operations. This position also reviews development applications for Water and Sewer requirements and identifies infrastructure required by development. You would use your experience and ability to coach, train, guide, and lead a small team engaged in engineering inspection and rehabilitation programs, which can include cost estimating, inspection, and contract administration. As the expert in Water and Sewer, you would establish and maintain effective working relations with a wide variety of internal and external contacts and committees in providing information, reports, and assistance on related matters. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a university degree in engineering, a professional engineer designation (P.Eng.), and a minimum of 15 years of municipal engineering experience, including in water and sewer systems. Ability to work independently, to communicate clearly and effectively, be organized, and work collaboratively with other team members. Supervisory experience and Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia are required.
