What is the Job?

The Associate Director, Engineering Admissions is responsible for managing Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s processes for qualification of applicants for registration as professional engineers and limited-scope engineering licensees, for a high-volume, critical operation and in an environment of continuous improvement of processes, operational efficiency, applicant and volunteer experience, and regulatory compliance. Engineers and Geoscientists BC is seeking someone who will rely on their excellent analytical, technical, planning, and management skills, combined with curiosity, an ability to adapt to ever-changing conditions, attention to detail, and hands-on team support, to balance strategic and tactical elements towards a best-in-class engineering admissions process.

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Managing engineering admissions processes in accordance with the Engineers and Geoscientists Act and/or the Professional Governance Act, regulations and associated bylaws, other applicable legislation and policies of Council;
  • Ensuring the effective provision, delivery, coordination, and review of an enhanced stakeholder experience for applicants and volunteers related to the admission of members;
  • Advising on and monitoring policy and process research, development, and modification related to professional engineering admissions requirements;
  • Managing, analyzing, and reporting on policy and process performance and improvement with respect to intake, evaluation, and registration of applicants, including provision of data, and empirical analysis including performance against metrics-based KPIs to multiple stakeholders;
  • Developing and managing the engineering admissions budget;
  • Developing and maintaining web-based information, documents, and training related to the engineering admissions process;
  • Managing engineering admissions staff including accountability for hiring, training, coaching, and performance management;
  • Providing volunteer support including recruitment, training, recognition, policy advice, and committee support; and
  • Applying Engineers and Geoscientists BC Privacy and Document/Record Management Policies in all aspects of the role’s responsibilities.

Who are We Looking For?

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering, geoscience, or a related field. A postgraduate degree in engineering, geoscience, business, law, or public policy would an asset.
  • Registration or eligibility to register as a professional engineer (P.Eng.), professional geoscientist (P.Geo.), engineering licensee (Eng.L.) or geoscience licensee (Geo.L.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. (This is a requirement for the role. Candidates who do not hold or are eligible for one or more of these qualifications will not be considered.)
  • A minimum of 7–10 years of related experience with:
    • Database and office technology, including a facility with web-based tools and applications, data, and process performance analysis;
    • Handling difficult or sensitive issues by using tact, diplomacy, and an understanding of organizational culture and climate;
    • Project management and administering programs using a client-centred approach, meeting and exceeding client expectations;
    • Building diverse teams, setting priorities, managing and balancing workload, monitoring progress towards goals, tracking team performance, and evaluating processes and results;
    • Monitoring and having accountability for budget management;
    • The principles and application of privacy requirements, including document management and security protocols;
    • Developing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including establishment and monitoring of KPIs, and policy and policy analysis; and
    • Researching, project management, analyzing, and applying legislation and policies, managing projects and budgets, leading diverse teams, and using web-based tools and applications;
  • Training in administrative law is an asset, as is conversancy with relevant BC legislation including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
