What is the Job?

The Practice Advisor (P.Eng. or P.Geo.) is responsible for providing leadership, interpretation and guidance to the Association, members/licensees, government, members of the public and a wide variety of other stakeholders on matters related to professional and ethical practice in professional engineering and professional geoscience in British Columbia. The primary focus of this role will be project managing the development and revision of professional practice guidelines and other resources.  The role must effectively represent Engineers and Geoscientists BC to its members/licensees, government, and the public.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provides professional practice and ethical advice to members, provincial and municipal government and other stakeholders
  • Manages the development and revision of professional practice guidelines and associated contracts and budgets
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders including provincial and municipal governments, technical associations and out-of- province professional regulatory bodies
  • Makes decisions/judgements/recommendations in liaising with other regulators as required and providing staff support on matters of practice overlap within areas of responsibility
  • Helps build Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s capacity to support the day-to-day practice of BC’s professional engineers and professional geoscientists
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned

Who are we looking for?

Basic qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geoscience or equivalent
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist
  • 5 – 7 years of experience as a practicing Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist
  • 2 – 5 years of detailed involvement in technical or scientific writing and/or editing
  • 2 – 5 years of detailed involvement managing engineering or geoscience projects
The position will require the successful candidate to demonstrate that he or she has:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Sufficient knowledge to provide accurate and credible advice to others
  • Ability to effectively represent Engineers and Geoscientists BC to its members, licensees, government and the public
  • Ability to manage projects and tasks with an intermediate degree of independence and judgement
