Part 2: Proposed Professional Development Activity Details
Title of Presentation
*
Please provide a descriptive and compelling presentation title.
Prerequisites
Example: To benefit from the course, attendees should have a basic prior knowledge of the following: - Electric circuit theory - Trigonometric and exponential functions- Symmetrical components - IEC Standards 62271-100 and 62271-110 or IEEE C37 Series - Use of Excel for equation based calculations
Detailed Session Description
*
Please include why this topic is of importance and what, if any, research findings it is based on. Describe the issue or problem that this session addresses as it will be used for marketing purposes. Describe how this session will address this issue or problem. Why is this topic of interest to the attendees? What’s in it for them?
Example: This advanced course covers the origin and derivation of the transient recovery voltage (TRV) requirements for circuit breakers applied for fault clearing and the switching of inductive and capacitive loads. The course first develops the fundamental concepts involved following current interruption including oscillatory circuits, symmetrical components and travelling waves. The developed concepts are then applied to the individual current interruption case TRVs and associated reignitions or restrikes and to making capacitive and inductive circuits. All cases are well illustrated by real examples. At the end of the course, attendees will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the TRVrequirements in IEC and IEEE standards and also know how to deal with exceptional cases.
Learning Objectives
*
Please include 4-6 specific learning objectives of your session. Include what usable tools can be implemented at the workplace. These bullet points should outline benefits for an attendee in this session and use behavior verbs that describe observable and measurable behaviours. Language should be succinct and clear as it will be used for marketing purposes. Use concrete verbs such as: assess, build, calculate, distinguish, evaluate, integrate, interpret, measure, observe, plan, rank, recognize, research, resolve, specify, state, summarize, transform, utilize, etc. For example, Attendees will learn: How to evaluate alternative approaches to outsourcing.
Example: What you will learn: - Fundamental basis for TRV’s and reignition and restriking transients - Derivation of pole factors and amplitude factors associated with TRV’s as specified in IEC 62271-100 and IEEE C37 - Calculation of the effects of adding surge capacitors to control TRV’s; effect of shunt capacitor banks, load sharing reactors and opening resistors - Calculation of TRV’s and reignition and restriking transients associated with inductive and capacitive loads, respectively

Target/Intended Audience
Describe who should attend the session.
Example: Electrical engineers seeking a fuller understanding of transients associated with current interruption in high voltage networks: - System Operating and Planning Engineers - Specification and Procurement Engineers - Protection and Control Engineers - Commissioning and Maintenance Engineers - Asset Managers - Consulting Engineers
