APEGBC Sea-to-Sky Branch Dinner and Presentation
Date: Thursday, November 28,  2013
Time: 5:45 pm to 9:15 pm
Location: Cheers Restaurant, 125 East 2nd Street, North Vancouver, BC
Topic: "Designing Buildings, Water and Waste Infrastructure for a Changing World: Challenges and Success Stories - Are we Innovating and Upgrading Enough?"
Details: Change and uncertainty in the energy economy, climate and hydrology characteristics are driving far-reaching innovations in building and public infrastructure.  Join us to explore practical examples of the “new and changing normal” for:
 - Achieving next-generation sustainability expectations, for individual buildings and on a neighbourhood scale – motivated by the benchmark UBC Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS building).
 - Water and waste infrastructure with acceptable long term impact and vulnerability: resilience of structures and dependence on energy supply; and regulatory, political, social, outreach and education essentials – based on Case Studies by the Engineers Canada Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee.
In this presentation, we will consider the business and environmental imperatives for such innovations and the life cycle approach in design optimization. We will recognize the favorable and unfavorable cumulative effects from multiple projects and sources.
