Quality Management in the Construction Industry Seminar. The morning part of this seminar will cover what is quality and how it is measured. The afternoon part of this seminar will include a summary of the principles behind ISO 9001 as well as methods of monitoring and auditing quality.

Why do owners or construction users evaluate the quality management systems of their consultants and contractors? Why do engineering and construction organizations spend the time and effort to implement and certify their quality management systems? It is because they can’t afford not to. As competition drives owners, designers and builders to provide more for less, no viable organization can afford the high costs that are reported to be wasted in rework and rigorous quality management processes have been shown to reduce the waste and produce a more consistent product.

The morning part of this seminar will cover the seminar objectives 1 and 2 – what is quality and how it is measured. The afternoon part of this seminar will cover objective 3 and include a summary of the principles behind ISO 9001 as well as methods of monitoring and auditing quality.

Both parts will include examples of design and construction projects where quality management was not incorporated and examples where quality management in general and ISO 9001 in particular were successfully utilized.

Seminar Objectives
  1. To demonstrate how product quality is different than product grade
  2. To introduce such quality tools as statistical process control charts and cause/ effect diagrams
