Instructors

Prof. Erik Eberhardt, P.Eng. – Erik is a Professor of Rock Engineering and Director of the Geological Engineering program at the University of British Columbia. His work is focussed on the advancement and integration of geological and geotechnical field measurements in conjunction with state-of-the-art numerical modelling techniques to better understand complex rock engineering problems. He has published over 160 technical papers, consults on international projects across North and South America, Europe and Asia, and was the 2013 recipient of the CGS's John A. Franklin Award for outstanding technical contributions to rock mechanics and rock engineering.

Prof.    Doug Stead, P.Eng. – Doug is Professor and FRBC Chair in Resource Geoscience & Getechnics at Simon Fraser University. His work emphasizes the applications of engineering geology and geotechnical engineering in the resource sector and natural hazards. Current research involves the development of digital terrain mapping techniques and their incorporation into slope stability assessment. The factors controlling slope failure, the mechanisms involved, and characterization of elements at risk are all important components of the research program. Doug has published over 200 technical papers and is recipient of the Canadian Geotechnical Society’s Thomas Roy Engineering Geology Award in 2008 and the John A. Franklin Rock Mechanics Award in 2009. Doug was elected Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, FEIC, in 2011.
