1 Informal Professional Development Hours (PDH)
APEGBC's Vancouver Branch and APEGBC's Student Program are hosting a Student and Industry Night on November 20, 2014 at UBC. This fun and casual evening provides a great opportunity for industry professionals to share their knowledge, career anecdotes and advice with engineering and geoscience students. It's also a great opportunity to socialize and network with fellow engineers and geoscientists. Free for all attendees. Sandwiches and other light refreshments will be served.
5:30 - 6:00 pm - Sign in opens; refreshments available
6:00 - 7:00 pm - Presentations on careers in engineering and geoscience
7:00 - 8:30 pm - Networking with industry professionals; refreshments available

About the Presenters
Darren Frew, P.Geol.
has led business development, mentorship and communication in BC’s technology sector for over 20 years. Prior to joining BC Bioenergy Network in 2009, he worked with the former Science Council of British Columbia and the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP). Darren is also a committed mentor for both graduate and undergraduate students; he served five years as a Mentor with the MBA program at UBC’s Sauder School of Business.
Dr. Tony Sperling, P.Eng.
is the President of Sperling Hansen Associates, a well-established solid waste engineering services consultancy in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Leading a team of skilled and enthusiastic design professionals, he has been involved in more than 1,000 landfill and solid waste planning projects in B.C. during the past 20 years including the South Fraser Perimeter Highway Landfill Closure Project that received the 2012 Award of Engineering Excellence from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of B.C.
Avery Jones, P.Eng.
the Manager of the Protection and Control Support Services department in Transmission Engineering at BC Hydro. Her group is responsible for technical support for groups in Field Operations and Engineering, transmission system fault analysis, power system monitoring and project commissioning support.
She is a registered professional engineer, and a graduate of the University of Victoria, and is married with three beautiful children. In her spare time she coaches a masters triathlon swim club, and enjoys running.
