In celebration of National Engineering and Geoscience Month for the month of March 2014, the Burnaby/New Westminster Branch of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC), along with co-sponsors Burnaby Public Library and Burnaby Parks and Recreation, is hosting a Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition at Bonsor Recreation Centre, 6550 Bonsor Avenue, Burnaby on March 8, 2014 at 11:30 am.
This exciting event challenges elementary and secondary students to build a bridge using only Popsicle sticks glue, and design it to be capable of holding heavy loads. Engineering skills, career development, interesting facts, and science at work are all part of our month long celebration.
The students shall compete for prizes, including cash, in addition to the bragging rights that come with building a structurally sound bridge.
Registration: Registration and bridge building kits can be picked up at the Children’s Desk at the Metrotown Branch of Burnaby Public Library, 6100 Willingdon Ave. Further information is available by calling 604-436-5420. The registration deadline is February 28, 2014.
