Presentation Topic: Developing a Roadmap for Net-Zero Construction and Deep-Energy Retrofits of Buildings by 2030

The Roadmap, an initiative of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER), will focus on two targets for residential, commercial and industrial settings:
  1. Facilitate the achievement of net-zero emissions for new buildings by 2030; and
  2.    Encourage the reduction of energy/emissions of existing buildings.
The Roadmap will encourage four main objectives:
  1. Increased energy efficiency would result in affordable energy bills for consumers;
  2. Promotion of energy efficiency will result in the demand for advanced knowledge and manufacturing jobs in both rural and urban communities;
  3. Increase the productivity and competitiveness across the built environment, while providing long-term resilience to the region; and
  4. Lower energy use and, thus, lower costs for consumers, create jobs, and continue to be a national leader in energy best practices.
Andrew will provide an overview of technology and building design innovations as well as policy best-practices that will support the achievement of these goals.

Andrew Pape Salmon, P.Eng., is an experienced leader in the implementation of energy efficient technologies, designs, and management practices for buildings and equipment and community energy systems. At RDH, he is responsible for energy sector services that are provided to a broad range of client groups and building industry partners, including energy policy consulting (strategies, legislation, codes & standards, institutional frameworks), community energy planning and demand-side management program design & evaluation, among other areas.
