This seminar is for engineers and geoscientists who wish to improve their writing skills. Through a series of hands-on workshops, along with a focus on grammar and related writing principles, you’ll learn the key elements of business and technical communications for your workplace. We’ll look at grammar from a pragmatic perspective, so you can understand how to correct your writing mistakes.
In this seminar, you'll:
  • Learn about parts of speech
  • Review common mistakes that ESL/EAL professionals make in their writing
  • Understand how to avoid common sentence errors
  • Recognize how to use punctuation effectively
  • Learn how to write effective letters, memos, and emails
Target Audience
Engineers and Geoscientists who need to write emails, letters, memos, and reports as part of their role. This session is designed for professionals for whom English is a second or additional language (ESL/EAL).
Eric Tung, MA – Principal Consultant, Prolepsis Consulting
Eric Tung has a Master of Arts in English from the University of British Columbia. He is an English Instructor at the UBC Writing Centre, where he teaches academic, professional, and business writing courses, including Writing for Engineers in the Workplace, a course designed specifically for engineers. He is also an Instructor at Simon Fraser University, where he teaches Business Communications at the Beedie School of Business. As a Principal Consultant at Prolepsis Consulting, Eric designs and delivers customized business, proposal, and technical writing workshops to various organizations, including engineering and consulting firms.
Eric is also a Change Management Consultant and specializes in change management strategy and implementation, stakeholder engagement, coaching, facilitation, instructional design, training, and technical and business communications. He has extensive experience in the municipal, utilities, academic, and technical sectors.
