A Process for Conveyor Design Seminar. This one day presentation considers the requirements for designing a troughing belt conveyor.
This presentation aims to impart a process for conveyor design. It will focus mostly on troughing conveyors:
  • Conveyor design basics
  • Process considerations
  • Selection of the conveyance
  • Troughing conveyor design considerations:
– A starting point
– Develop the design
– Define the design
  • Software use
  • Potential traps
  • Safe, constructible, maintainable and operable systems
The fundamental aspects of installation and operation of the components is considered and the differences between the normal operating condition and the upset condition are reviewed. Many common problems with design and operation are highlighted. The current state of materials handling science is discussed.
Course Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide an overview of the aspects that should be considered in the design of a troughing belt conveyor for safe and effective construction, operation and maintenance. The course will also identify some of the issues that have been caused and can be caused by not understanding or considering these issues in the design, procurement and construction of these machines.
The course will be presented in English, and some basic knowledge of bulk materials handling and conveying will be beneficial.
Target Audience
Engineers in the field of bulk materials handling who are involved in the design or selection of conveyor installations.
Steve Davis, P.Eng. CEng CPEng FIMechE FIEAust - Technical Director, Materials Handling, WorleyParsons Advisian
Steve Davis, P.Eng. CEng CPEng FIMechE FIEAust is the Technical Director for Bulk Materials handling with WorleyParsons Advisian in Burnaby. Steve has over 35 years’ experience in the resource industry, having worked in Europe, Africa, Australasia and North and South America.
He has specialized in the development of bulk materials handling projects for many materials and many capacities. His experience includes studies and detailed design, construction and operation, failure analysis and upgrades in resources that include coal, iron ore, bauxite, alumina, copper, nickel, gold, diamonds, manganese, potash, oil sands, salt and other resources.
Steve’s work has involved many aspects of bulk materials handling from pit to port, including In Pit Crushing and Conveying, overland conveyors, in plant conveyors, stockpiling and reclaim, loading and unloading to trains and trucks, and port facilities including ship loading and ship unloading.
Steve has presented courses previously in several countries, but this course is a brand new course.
