Dinner and Tour:"City of Surrey Traffic Operations Center"

The City of Surrey has built a state of the art Traffic Operations Center. The tour will show the center in operation and describe how it is used to manage the traffic within the city. The tour is preceded with a presentation that will cover the technology used by Traffic Engineering to manage the traffic in the City of Surrey and showcase the installation commissioned during the past year.

The Traffic Signals group oversees the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the City’s Traffic Signal System including the following major infrastructure components:
  •     Traffic Control Centre – a computerized system containing specialized software, communications system, and multiple LCD monitors and workstations. Traffic signals group staff monitors both vehicle and pedestrian traffic real time by using 35 CCTV cameras installed at key locations within the City’s arterial road network.
  •     Computerized Traffic Signal System – a system that monitors and controls various functions of traffic signals from a central location.
  •     Communications Network – City-owned, mostly wireless, communications network that allows direct access and communication to 175 traffic signals.
  •     Numerous special crosswalks, warning flashers, and overhead signs.
  •     Priority Pre-emption Systems – traffic signal pre-emption for railway and fire emergency vehicles.
  •     Audible/Accessible Traffic Signals – devices for the visually impaired.
