You and your guests are invited to attend the Sea-to-Sky Branch Dinner and Technical Presentation on "Marine Oil Spill Response on the West Coast".

The mandate of Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) is to ensure there is a state of preparedness in place to mitigate the impact oil spills. WCMRC's members include oil handling facilities, barging companies, freighters, ferries, cruise ships and bulk carriers. In this technical presentation Mr. Michael Lowry of WCMRC will discuss:
  • The history and legislation that resulted in the formation of WCMRC;
  • The Transport Canada and other certifications required to operate;
  • The plans they have in place for responding to spills (response time and responsibilities);
  • The equipment, training and other resources available to respond to oil spills; and
  • Examples of spill responses and the issues associated with oil spill responses.

Speaker:
Mr. Michael Lowry is the communications manager for Western Canada Marine Response Corporation. He is a strategic communications and public relations consultant with more than 10 years' experience in domestic and international settings across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Michael has designed and developed successful communication campaigns for some of BC's most influential organizations, including Harbour Air, Pacific Blue Cross and Columbia Power. Michael has a BA in Communications from the University of Calgary and a B.Sc. in Politics and International Relations from the London School of Economics.

5:30 - 6:00 pm Registration, networking, cash bar (please bring  money for drinks).
6:00 - 6:15 pm Announcements, introductions.
6:15 - 7:00 pm BBQ buffet dinner, dessert, coffee and tea, and cash bar.
7:00 - 8:00 pm Speaker’s presentation.
8:00 - 8:45 pm Questions and answers, and discussion.
8:45 - 9:00 pm Closing.
