Details:
The APEGBC Victoria branch is looking for leaders who are willing to share their knowledge and inspire young minds with the opportunities a future in engineering or geoscience can bring. Learn more about becoming a career awareness volunteer and the Victoria Branch’s school outreach activities in this training session. Volunteers will also be able to add their names to the list of volunteers available to conduct outreach in the Victoria area.

Participants of this interactive session will learn leadership skills to help them engage in career outreach. These skills include outlining the difference between a manger and a leader, qualities of a leader, how to lead inclusively, and how to facilitate a discussion. The volunteers will be divided into groups and be tasked with designing an activity or a problem for students. Each group will present its activity and the most feasible, interesting, and inclusive (of all engineering disciplines and geoscience) activity will be considered for use at future career outreach school visits.

The Victoria branch is expecting to hold a number of workshops at middle and high schools in the Victoria area throughout the year. Our first workshop will be at St.Michael's University on September 29, 2015. Each workshop will include an interactive presentation and discussion with students about their perceptions, expectations and understanding of engineering and geoscience. Our team of Career Awareness volunteers will lead and guide the students and facilitate the discussion.

Notes:
  • To help us predict our catering needs please sign up by September 16, 2015.
  • The APEGBC Victoria Branch would like to highlight the diversity of our professions through  these presentations. We encourage female engineers and geoscientists as well as internationally trained professionals to volunteer.
To sign up for the training session, please email a resume to Rob McDermot, P. Eng. at rob.mcdermot.org. Let us know if you have any questions or any special dietary concerns.
