Join us on Thursday, June 4, 2015 and hear from one of APEGBC's leaders at the 2015 Vice President's Reception, hosted by the APEGBC Vancouver Branch. Located at the beautiful Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in downtown Vancouver, you will hear from and have the opportunity to network with Dr. Michael Wrinch, P.Eng, FEC, APEGBC Vice-President.

The reception will also feature a special presentation from Darren Frew, Director of Planning and Communication with BC Bioenergy Network who has led business development, mentorship, and communication in BC's technology sector for more than 20 years. Darren will discuss mentorship in the professions and the role of women in engineering, while highlighting the importance for women in the professions to have mentorship suited to their needs and role models to identify with and look up to.

APEGBC will host a selection of catered canapés, with a cash bar available throughout the evening. Networking before and after dinner will give you the chance to meet APEGBC members from across the professions, as well as APEGBC Vice-President Mike Wrinch and guest speaker Darren Frew.

Darren Frew
Director of Planning and Communication - BC Bioenergy Network

Darren Frew has led business development, mentorship and communication in BC’s technology sector for more than 20 years. He presently serves as Director of Planning and Communication with BC Bioenergy Network.  He is also a committed mentor for both graduate and undergraduate students. He served five years as a Mentor with the MBA program at UBC’s Sauder School of Business; he is also a mentor with the Student Biotechnology Network.
Darren holds a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Calgary (1982); he attained “P. Geol.” status with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) in 1986.

Darren has enhanced his public speaking and leadership skills with Toastmasters International in British Columbia for the past seven years.  Darren was named Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year in British Columbia for 2010/2011. Darren is regularly invited to speak about leadership and communications to a variety of organizations, including APEGBC, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators, the Council of Forest Industries, the Financial Management Institute of Canada, the Human Resources Management Association and UBC.

Michael Wrinch, P.Eng., FEC
APEGBC Vice President

Dr. Wrinch is the Principal at Hedgehog Technologies Inc., a company which specializes in project management and system design of high-energy control, manufacturing and AMR type metering systems.  Dr. Wrinch also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia has worked as a Systems Engineer with Intrignia Solutions Inc.

A longtime volunteer with APEGBC, Dr. Wrinch has served on the Professional Renewal Task Force, as a member of the Vancouver Branch Executive, and the Governance Committee. He also served as a member of APEGBC Council from 2008- 2010 and from 2011-2013. Dr. Wrinch received his Bachelors (2000) and Masters (2002) in electrical engineering from the Memorial University of Newfoundland. In 2009, he completed his Ph.D in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia.
