Note:
Based on his extensive experience, Claudio will discuss what it takes to to bring a product from inception to commercialization. When taking a technology or product out of a research facility to the market, non-technical factors such as government plans, financial arrangements, social systems and the cultural environment are as important as the scientific and technical knowledge. Engineers and Geoscientists should look ahead at the value of their present day research in the context of market demand in 10 or 20 years' time.

Speaker:
Mr. Claudio Arato, P.Eng., FEC
Upon graduation from UBC Chemistry in 1988 and Chemical and Biological Engineering in 1991, Claudio Arato developed a detailed commercial rollout plan when he joined as Director of Engineering at Sonoro Energy, leading all development and technology commercialization, and arranged the sale and privatization of all IP and technology in 2014 to Provectus, licensing its R&D in applications starting with electronic waste, coal fired power generation and mining.

Claudio has served on many APEGBC task forces and committees, been a past 3-term Councilor and sits on the Registration Committee, the UBC Faculty of Chemical and Biological Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee, an invited lecturer at UBC in APSC 450 – Engineering and Ethics  as well as working with the Make A Wish Foundation as a wish granter since 2001.  He was elected as an Engineers Canada Fellow in 2011. He is the recipient of the Community Leadership Award 2013 given by UBC Faculty of Applied Science, the 2010 APEGBC D.C. Lambert Professional Service Award and the 2014 Engineers Canada Meritorious Achievement Award. 
 
Claudio has generated numerous patents for different applications in numerous applications in his passionate chase of innovation in a world of infinite problems and limited resources.
