The Canadian Avalanche Association's New Framework for Managing Avalanche Risk. This presentation will introduce key documents and case studies in land-use planning and operational program development for managing avalanche risk. The session will also illustrate how avalanche risk management aligns with, and differs from, managing risk from other geohazards. After attending the presentation, participants will be able to: know when to consider avalanche hazards in project planning, identify processes and uncertainty associated with avalanche risk management, know where to find and how to interpret guidelines for managing avalanche risk, and identify types of professionals suited to different aspects of avalanche risk management.
