Is your accent an obstacle to effective communication? Find out how to turn your English pronunciation skills from a weakness into a strength. This intermediate/advanced workshop will focus on individual problem sounds that can make your speech difficult to understand. You will learn to fine-tuning your 12 English vowels, the different types of “T”, and light and dark side of “L”, “R” and “The”, combining consonants, and troubleshooting troublesome sounds.

Unique Features of the Course

The course is offered by a registered speech-language pathologist, who brings the methods and techniques of clinical speech therapy to accent reduction. Activities will be interactive, dynamic, and imitate real speech. Do not expect boring word lists to repeat!

Patrick Byrne is a speech-language pathologist with an extensive background in helping people communicate better. Patrick holds a master's degree in speech science from UBC, providing him with a solid understanding of sound production and comprehensive training in speech analysis. He is a member of the Speech-Language Audiology Canada and the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of BC. He has worked with a diverse clientele in both public health and private practice. Previous to becoming an speech therapist, Patrick worked as a certified TESL instructor, and has taught English both in North America and overseas.
