Engineers are often engaged by owners to investigate and test buildings and structures for the purpose of diagnosing problems and recommending repair options. This one-day seminar will provide engineers with a good fundamental understanding of the steps required to investigate a structure for various modes of failure, carry out appropriate tests, and prepare bid documents to implement the required repairs.


This seminar has no prerequisites; however, a background in building science or forensic architecture/engineering along with project management is recommended.

It is specifically intended for professionals who are involved in the preparation of bid documents, tendering, and project management of residential, commercial, or institutional construction or restoration projects.

Speaker Bio

Martin Gerskup Architect, Architect AIBC, OAA, MRAIC, is President of BEST Consultants Martin Gerskup Architect Inc. in Ontario and President of BEST Consultants Building Science Engineering Inc. in British Columbia.

He is a member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and the Ontario Association of Architects, and has taught as an Assistant Adjunct Professor and tutor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design and for the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Ryerson University.

Martin has 30 years of experience in the field of building condition assessments, reserve fund studies, construction and restoration, and has worked on well over 1000 buildings and structures.
