This presentation will look at other methods for conveying bulk materials than troughing conveyors in sufficient detail to understand the main differentiators. The presentation will cover systems that have been available for many years through to current developments, including for larger capacities:
- “Special” types of troughing conveyor
- Capsule conveying
- Cable Belt® conveyors
- Pipe conveyors
- Others such as pendant, tube, screw, en-masse, and other systems for smaller capacities.
To gain an understanding of the different conveying systems and their applications, benefits, disadvantages, costs, throughputs, and other aspects.

Attendees should have some basic knowledge of bulk materials handling and conveying in conventional troughing conveyors, and a basic knowledge of applicable bulk materials handling properties.

Steve Davis, P.Eng. CEng CPEng FIMechE FIEAust is the Technical Director for Bulk Materials handling with WorleyParsons Advisian in Burnaby. Steve has over 35 years’ experience in the resource industry, having worked in Europe, Africa, Australasia and North and South America.
He has specialised in the development of bulk materials handling projects for many materials and many capacities. His experience includes studies and detailed design, construction and operation, failure analysis and upgrades in resources that include coal, iron ore, bauxite, alumina, copper, nickel, gold, diamonds, manganese, potash, oil sands, salt and others.
Steve’s work has involved many aspects of bulk materials handling from pit to port, including In Pit Crushing and Conveying, overland conveyors, in plant conveyors, stockpiling and reclaim, loading and unloading to trains and trucks, and port facilities including ship loading and ship unloading.
Steve has presented courses previously in several countries. This course is new.
