APEGBC is hosting a Student and Industry Night at UBC. This fun and casual evening provides a great opportunity for industry professionals to share their knowledge, career anecdotes and advice with engineering students. It's also a great opportunity to socialize and network with fellow engineers.

Schedule

6:30 PM – 7:00 PM: Registration
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Presentations
8:00 PM – 9:30 PM: Networking

Registration will take place starting at 6:30 PM in the main atrium of the Earth Sciences Building at the University of British Columbia.

Refreshments will be served at this event.

Speakers

Paul Nielson, P.Eng.

Paul Nielson is a professional engineer and senior mining operations leader who has nearly 15 years of diverse mining industry and business development experience across Western Canada, the United States, and Chile. A graduate from UBC’s Metals and Materials Engineering program in 2003, his experience includes the roles of process engineer and project manager for the study and execution of gold, copper, silver and nickel minerals processing plants and their associated infrastructure. Paul’s core expertise is in business leadership, process engineering, financial analysis, business development, strategic planning, and project management.
 

Ben Sparrow, P.Eng.
CEOSaltworks Technologies

Ben is a clean tech innovator, entrepreneur, and mechanical engineer. He is the CEO and co-founder of Saltworks Technologies – an advanced desalination system developer. Saltworks has over 40 patents and has successfully taken new water technologies to full scale implementation with global clients. Saltworks' first plant was built in Ben’s East Vancouver apartment. Today Saltworks operates two factories and has commercial scale plants installed globally with customers that include long list of Fortune 500 industrial companies, including exciting projects with NASA and the Navy. Ben was honoured with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for his contribution to clean technology, and indentified as one of Vancouver’s Top 40 under 40 in 2012.
