Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) are becoming a standard for the AC motor controllers. When used they save energy and protect our environment. This presentation will address the details of the internals of the VFD. The session will outline how a VFD shall be selected based on the application and will also address how VFD saves energy even if the motor speed is not varied. Various problems associated with the use of VFDs will be discussed.

Harnam Trehin is a Graduate of Concordia University, Montreal, Que with Master of Electrical Engineering.
For the last 30 years, Mr. Trehin held various positions in the application design and development of power electronics products for industrial applications such as DC drives, AC drives, Rectifiers, electrical prolusion systems and excitation systems (with and without power system stabilizers) for synchronous motors and generators (with brushes and brushless) for industrial applications around the world.
Mr. Trehin has conducted in depth training courses for the application and maintenance of these products around the world.
