Join the Okanagan Branch for a presentation titled, "Ocean and River Current Renewable Energy Resources: Opportunities & Developmental Status" with Dr. Gouri Bhuyan, P.Eng.

Ocean renewable energy offers the potential for long-term greenhouse gas emission reduction and to aid sustainable development. There is significant scope of renewable energy from oceans, particularly tidal current and ocean thermal energy as well as from river current energy. Currently there are many technologies being developed worldwide to harness these renewable resources for different utilizations, such as, producing electricity and drinking water, as well as for air conditioning, aquaculture and other applications. At international level, various national governments are working collaboratively towards necessary policy development for enabling commercialization and deployment of these emerging renewable resources.

The presentation will focus on relevant conversion processes, resource potential as well as current status of market and industry development. Current relevant Canadian project initiatives will be discussed.
