3) Presentation: “Professional Liability Insurance Considerations – Risk Retention vs. Risk Transfer”

Rob Selnes, B. Com (Hons), CAIB will speak on professional liability.

Professional liability insurance is a significant consideration for practicing Professional Engineers and Geoscientists, in the ever increasingly litigious society.  This presentation will focus on developing a thought process around identifying risk, understanding your risk philosophy/appetite, and how to develop a methodology around the decision whether to retain or transfer risk to the insurance market.
Discussed, will be the role of the liability insurance broker in helping clients identify (and limit) professional liability risks through both risk management and risk transfer strategies. Organizational Quality Management (OQM) in the context of liability coverage will be discussed.
This presentation is appropriate for all professionals at differing stages in their careers. Examples of claims will be provided for additional context.  An engaging question and answer session is expected.
