Technical Talk

Tim Smith, owner of Westrek and APEGBC former President, will be presenting on his experiences being in Nepal last year when the major earthquake happened.

The presentation describes what it is like for a person who normally deals with natural disasters (after they occur) to be smack bang in the middle of a major earthquake. Tim Smith was in Nepal last year and was about a 1 hour walk from Everest Base Camp when the Gorkha Earthquake hit. His climbing team were impacted by not only the earthquake, but by the large snow avalanche that followed.

The presentation describes what it is like to be in a major earthquake, what type of feelings it emotes, what are the similarities between BC and Nepal, and what are some of the things that we need to be aware of when the "Big One" hits.
