Overview of the Columbia River Treaty

At this year’s APEGBC West Kootenay Branch Annual General Meeting, Kelvin Ketchum, P.Eng,. former Principle Engineer and Manager at BC Hydro, will provide an overview of the history, concepts, and benefits behind the Columbia River Treaty, as well as summarizing the outcome of the recently held review process. This 1964 treaty is an international agreement between Canada and the United States to coordinate flood control and optimize hydroelectric energy production on both sides of the border. Though the original treaty is still in effect for several more years, cross-border re-negotiations have already begun for its potential renewal.

APEGBC Update

Mr. Stewart will provide an update on APEGBC Council initiatives and take your questions regarding current APEGBC affairs. R.P. (Bob) Stewart, P.Eng., is the Principal Engineer in Electrical, Generation Engineering at BC Hydro. Previously, Mr. Stewart worked as divisional manager in various departments at BC Hydro, as well as senior maintenance and operations services manager at GM Shrum Generation Station. Mr. Stewart has volunteered with APEGBC in various capacities, including serving as an Experience Reviewer, Member and Assessor with the Competency-Based Application Assessment Team and as a member of the EIT Competency-Based Application Group.
