Overview of the Columbia River Treaty
At this year’s APEGBC West Kootenay Branch Annual General Meeting, Kelvin Ketchum, P.Eng,. former Principle Engineer and Manager at BC Hydro, will provide an overview of the history, concepts, and benefits behind the Columbia River Treaty, as well as summarizing the outcome of the recently held review process. This 1964 treaty is an international agreement between Canada and the United States to coordinate flood control and optimize hydroelectric energy production on both sides of the border. Though the original treaty is still in effect for several more years, cross-border re-negotiations have already begun for its potential renewal.
APEGBC Update
Mr. Stewart will provide an update on APEGBC Council initiatives and take your questions regarding current APEGBC affairs. R.P. (Bob) Stewart, P.Eng., is the Principal Engineer in Electrical, Generation Engineering at BC Hydro. Previously, Mr. Stewart worked as divisional manager in various departments at BC Hydro, as well as senior maintenance and operations services manager at GM Shrum Generation Station. Mr. Stewart has volunteered with APEGBC in various capacities, including serving as an Experience Reviewer, Member and Assessor with the Competency-Based Application Assessment Team and as a member of the EIT Competency-Based Application Group.
Branch Annual General Meeting
The presentations will be preceded by dinner and a brief Annual General Meeting of our local branch of APEGBC. Please join us for this event, and consider joining the branch executive to help us plan future functions. We have a full slate of positions available, including "Member-at-Large".
