In conjunction with ASTTBC and the BCIT Student Association, Engineers and Geoscientists BC is hosting a student and industry night. This fun and casual evening provides a great opportunity for industry professionals to share their knowledge, career anecdotes, and advice with engineering students. It's also a great opportunity to socialize and network with fellow professionals.

Schedule

  • 6:30 PM–7:30 PM: Panel (SE6 - Telus Theatre)
  • 7:30 PM–9:00 PM: Networking (SE2 - Habitat Pub)

Guests are welcome to attend either the panel, the networking session, or both. Note that the pub is 19+ and guests may be required to show ID upon entry.

Complimentary appetizers, tea, and coffee will be served at the networking portion of this event. Additional food and beverages can be purchased from the pub's menu.

Ashita Anand Sanghera, P.Eng.

Engineer, Compliance and Mandatory Reliability Standards Division, British Columbia Utilities Commission

Ashita Anand Sanghera graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in electrical engineering and has spent seven years working in the energy sector. She has worked at BC Hydro as a system protection and control engineer, and now works with the provincial government as a regulatory engineer for the BC Utilities Commission. Ashita actively volunteers in her community, most recently completing her term as Chair of the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Vancouver Branch and as Board Director of BC Women in Energy Network. In her spare time, she enjoys singing in a local choir and spending time with her husband, who is also an electrical engineer.

Amanda Richardson

Lead Advisor, Talent Acquisition, Metro Vancouver

Amanda Richardson graduated from BCIT with her human resources management diploma in 2003 and has spent 13 years working in Human Resources for Metro Vancouver. In Amanda’s role, she partners with her wide variety of client departments to attract and hire the best talent for Metro Vancouver. She is also responsible for employer branding and outreach for the organization and enjoys representing Metro Vancouver at various events. In her spare time, she enjoys biking with her husband and two kids in Whistler and you can often find her at the hockey rink, cheering for her 6 year old son’s hockey team.

Karen Spoelstra, P.Eng.

Associate, MCW Consultants

Karen Spoelstra is a mechanical engineer and an Associate with MCW Consultants. Karen specializes in sustainable design for mixed-use, multi-unit, residential high-rises. She works closely with owners, developers, and social housing operators to provide the best possible mechanical building systems designs to ensure occupant comfort, safety, and resiliency over the life of the building. Karen was a key design team member for the LEED Gold Certified Marine Gateway complex in Vancouver, the first mixed use building of that scale in Vancouver, and has continued on to engineering of the new Station Square towers and One Burrard Place. Karen is currently a member of the City of Vancouver’s Urban Design Panel and a registered professional engineer in BC. Karen graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Lakehead University after completing the BCIT Mechanical Engineering Technologies diploma.

Brian Yu

Hydrologic Technologist, Metro Vancouver

Brian Yu graduated from Camosun College with a civil engineering technologist diploma and has spent the last 3 years living in Burnaby and working for the Regional Government (Metro Vancouver) where he performs civil engineering construction inspection duties and reviews flow monitoring data. Brian lived in Victoria for 22 years prior to moving to the Lower Mainland. He has 12 years of consulting engineering experience while living in Victoria. Outside of work, Brian volunteers at various local charity events (Consultants’ Fishing Derby Invitational, Operation Trackshoes, Run-for-the-Cure), and he embraces BC’s healthy living life style by actively involved in outdoor sporting events and organizations (dragon boating, beach volleyball, marathon, etc.).
