UBC Student and Industry Night

National Practice Lead – Buildings, Associated Engineering
Engineers and Geoscientists BC is hosting a student and industry night at UBC. This fun and casual evening provides a great opportunity for industry professionals to share their knowledge, career anecdotes, and advice with engineering and geoscience students. It's also a great opportunity to socialize and network with fellow professionals.

  • 7:00 PM–8:00 PM: Presentation
  • 8:00 PM–9:00 PM: Networking

Complimentary appetizers, tea, and coffee will be served at the networking portion of this event.

Speaker

Mark Porter, P.Eng., Struct.Eng., FIStructE

National Practice Lead – Buildings, Associated Engineering

Mark is a Senior Building Structural Engineer and the National Practice Leader for Associated Engineering, with 20 years’ experience on the design of a wide range of structures. Mark is recognized by his peers as a leader in structural engineering, management, and sustainable design. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Structural Engineers and a designated structural engineer in the Province of British Columbia.

Mark is a leader in sustainable design and is involved in a number of professional bodies including a past member of Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Sustainability Committee, the Institution of Structural Engineers Sustainable Construction Panel, and, until recently, the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. He is the current chair of Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Climate Change Advisory Group and oversaw the development of the Position Paper on Climate Change.

  • UBC engineering students: sign up for a Student Membership if you do not already have an account. Undergraduate UBC engineering students do not pay a membership fee upon activating their account.
  • UBC geoscience students and graduate engineering students: we encourage you to sign up for a Student Membership. If you do not wish to pay the membership fee, use the "Register" link below and select "create new account" from the login screen. You must create an account to register but you do not need a Student Membership.
  • Engineers and Geoscientists BC members: when you click "Register," you will be prompted to log in. Sign in using your User ID and password.
