Please join us in Port Alberni for a dinner presentation on the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation's multiple "run-of-the-river" hydropower projects. The three hydropower plants - Haa-ak-suuk Creek, Canoe Creek, and currently under-construction Winchie Creek - are being used to produce renewable energy on Vancouver Island. These hydropower plants are owned and operated locally and produce enough electricity to supply the annual needs of over 5,000 homes.

Please see below for a full description.

Topics for the evening will include an overview of the process that “run-of-the-river” hydropower plants use, including an insight into the design of these renewable energy projects. Construction challenges and processes of these projects will also be touched on. Other topics include:
  • Challenges of the “run-of-the-river” hydropower plant operations.
  • Studies conducted for these projects to move forward.
  • A photo and possible video presentation of the surrounding project areas.
