Please join the APEGBC Vancouver Branch for our Panel Discussion. The main objective of the seminar is to help the engineers and geoscientists transition into the Canadian job market and further advance within the field of engineering and geoscience.

A panel discussion will be held with guest panelists who have excelled in their career and have experience of working in different organizations. The discussions will include and are not limited to:
  • How can internationally trained engineers and geoscientists get into jobs in Canada?
  • What do employers look for when hiring internationally trained engineers and/or geoscientists?
  • How to prepare strategic roadmap for job search?
  • What is soft skills development and Canadian work culture?
  • How can internationally trained engineers and geoscientists prosper in their jobs?

Panelists

Doina Dobre P.Eng. GSC
Director, Senior Cost Estimator, Emerald Cost Consulting Inc.

Doina-Dobre.pngDoina Dobre is a professional engineer and cost estimator with 30+ years of experience.  She holds the Gold Seal Certificate in Estimating from the Canadian Construction Association. Her experience includes detailed cost estimating for large infrastructure, hydroelectric, heavy civil, institutional, and commercial projects throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. For the past 20 years, she has provided cost estimating and planning services for projects in Canada and has previously spent 13 years providing site supervision and project management expertise in Europe. Doina’s broad experience on a wide variety of projects has given her a pragmatic management approach that always keeps cost management in mind.

 

Alden E. Habacon
Senior Advisor, Intercultural Understanding, University of British Columbia

Alden-Habacon.jpgAlden E. Habacon is an accomplished diversity and inclusion strategist with over 10 years of experience in leading the development, implementation and staff engagement of strategy towards diversity and inclusion, organizational culture change, inter culturalism and social sustainability.

He has an established track record in producing organizational culture change and solving complex intercultural issues that inhibit socially sustainable communities and workplaces. His body of work includes consulting, writing, online and television production, and leadership in a variety of non-profits that contribute to social sustainability, diversity and inclusion in Canada.

He is the Senior Advisor and former Director of Intercultural Understanding for the University of British Columbia. Prior to UBC, Alden led the development and implementation of CBC Television's national diversity strategy, as the Manager of Diversity Initiatives for CBC Television.

 

Silvia Di Blasio
Case Manager/Facilitator - Career Paths for Immigrants Program, Immigrant Services Society of British Columbia (ISS of BC)

Silvia-Di-Blasio.jpgMrs Silvia Di Blasio is a Certified Career Counsellor and Facilitator and Life Coach with 10+ years of experience coaching people in their career and life choices, her experience includes helping newcomers to get back to their pre-landing careers or launching a new career in Canada, foreign credential assessment and recognition, supporting vulnerable job seekers to find fulfilling employment and providing career and life planning services. She currently works at Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants at ISS of BC as a Case Manager/Facilitator and runs her own business as a life coach at Ethical Pathways Coaching for Transformation.

 

Vishal Prasad
Search Consultant in Skilled Trades and Logistics, Adecco Canada

Vishal-Prasad.jpgVishal Prasad has 2+ years in full cycle recruitment and is currently a Specialized Permanent Search Consultant in Skilled Trades and Logistics for Adecco Canada. His background in Banking and Journalism have given him the tools to manage delicate projects and cultivate personal relationships and long-term partnerships. In 2016 Vishal, was promoted from the Adecco Staffing sector to Executive Search by exceeding his targets consecutively for 4 months in a row. In 2017, Vishal was awarded GOLD status for Recruitment Excellence out of 20 Senior Consultants across Canada.

 

Roma Strenja
Western Regional Manager, Adecco Canada

She has held many positions prior to her role as Branch Manager, such as Staffing Consultant, Account Executive, Key Account Manager, and Western Regional Manager. Her combined experience has given her an in-depth understanding of full-cycle recruitment, performance management, and account management. Roma has a strong consultative background and truly understands the needs of her clients which leads to successful placements and long-term relationships. She has proven herself in the local community when it comes to understanding the right fit for her clients or what is happening in the local market. She is responsible for representing Adecco Canada’s internal retention strategies and working with companies of all sizes for hiring and retaining top talent.
