Earth science students are invited to join us for a seminar on professional registration and careers in geoscience.

Presentation Topics

First, the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Student Program Coordinator will give a brief overview of the registration process to become a geoscientist-in-training (GIT) or professional geoscientist (P.Geo.). Afterwards, geoscientists from the Victoria region will present on working in different aspects of BC's geoscience industry.

This event is meant for University of Victoria Earth and Ocean Sciences students. However, Engineers and Geoscientists BC members, members-in-training, and the public are welcome to attend. Online registration is required for this event.

Speakers

Dr. Robert Brozdowski, P.Geo.

​Consulting Exploration Geologist

Dr. Brozdowski has over 30 years diverse exploration experience emphasizing Ni-Cu-PGE sulfides and gold, but including uranium, VMS, SEDEX, and IOCG deposits. He worked with Callahan Mining Corp. from 1983–1991 and subsequently with Western Mining Corporation (later WMC) across Canada and the United States from 1992–1998. Dr. Brozdowski has been a consulting exploration geologist since 1998, involved in regional project generation, integrated regional field programs, and property-scale exploration projects for major, junior, and private clients in North and South America, Asia, and Europe. He holds a Ph.D. Geology (Western University, London, ON, 1990), M.A. Geology (Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, 1983), and B.S. Geosciences (Pennsylvania State Univ., 1980).

Tania Demchuk, P.Geo.

Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines, Compliance and Enforcement, Ministry of Energy and Mines

Tania Demchuk is the Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines, Compliance and Enforcement at the BC Ministry of Energy and Mines. She graduated with her Master of Science degree from the University of Victoria School of Earth and Ocean Sciences in 2010. Tania has spent her career interacting with the mining and exploration industry as a public servant, first in the BC Geological Survey, and then moving to the Health, Safety and Permitting group at the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
