This seminar is a comprehensive 1-day classroom-based session. The session will overview the theory, fundamentals, and causes of erosion and sedimentation, as well as focus on the reasons for poor Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) practices and performances that are so prevalent today and how to achieve the results we need. Along with the instructor, attendees will explore some of the more common practices and review their most appropriate use. Processes and procedures all practitioners should employ in the preparation, implementation, and execution of erosion and sediment control plans and contracts will be demonstrated.

The Session will:

  • Overview the theory, fundamentals, and causes of erosion and sedimentation.
  • Explore the best management practices and review their most appropriate uses.
  • Detail the current state of the industry as well as recent innovations and advances.
  • Identify common reasons for poor ESC practices and performances.
  • Demonstrate the processes and procedures all practitioners should employ in the preparation, implementation, and execution of erosion and sediment control plans, and
  • Explain contracting and construction management for effective ESC.

This session is appropriate for all ESC practitioners including: civil, environmental, and geotechnical engineers, designers, field staff, project managers, regulatory managers, and all those active in the ESC industry. Find out how to consistently meet the governing guidelines, regulations, and bylaws, using fundamental concepts and approaches, and save yourselves and your clients the time, money, and frustration. Learn how to do ESC right!

Key Outcomes

  • Develop a firm understanding and comfort with which BMPs to use in which applications.
  • Understand what to look for when inspecting/installing/monitoring BMPs, and
  • Work through ESC design on three sites to be comfortable putting together a plan that works.
