For the first tour of 2018, the Burnaby/New Westminster Branch will be exploring the BC Rapid Transit Company's (BCRTC) Operations and Maintenance Centre, which sustains the Millennium and Expo Lines. Overall the tour will provide attendees with a better understanding of the inner workings of the SkyTrain Lines.
SkyTrain is the Vancouver region's automated 69 km rapid transit system (Expo, Millennium ,and Canada Lines), and part of the TransLink integrated regional transportation network.
From an initial 21 km opened in 1986, the combined Expo and Millennium Lines (operated by BC Rapid Transit Co. Ltd.) now comprise 33 stations along 49 km of double-track guideway, operate through four cities, and carry 80 million passengers a year. A further 11 km extension through two more of the region's cities will open in late 2016. The Canada Line, operated by ProTrans BC under a P3 agreement added a north-south corridor, with 16 stations along 19 kms service the cities of Vancouver and Richmond and YVR Airport.
A visit to the SkyTrain Operations and Maintenance Centre (OMC) will include a brief overview presentation of the system and tour of the Expo/Millennium Operations Control Centre and the Vehicle Maintenance Shops.
Also, as parking is very limited on their site, the participants are suggested to take transit if possible. See below for downloadable resources:
As space is limited, please register early to avoid disappointment.
