Please join us for our technical talk discussing geohazard assessments and emergency response for Canadian Railways. Topics will include a discussion of how railways assess and manage geohazards along the alignment, and how geotechnical engineers assist railways immediately after an unforeseen geohazard event.


Cathy Schmid, P.Eng.

Geotechnical Consultant, BGC Engineering

Cathy Schmid is a professional engineer who specializes in rock engineering for mining and linear infrastructure projects. She graduated from Queen's University with a B.Sc. (Eng) in 2002, and an M.Sc. (Eng) in 2005. Cathy has worked at mining operations for PlacerDome, Inco, Areva, and Cameco, and has worked for BGC Engineering in Kamloops as a geotechnical consultant since 2008. She is a prairie kid at heart, and loves to work outside with hard-working fun-loving people.
