Come and join the Tri-City Branch as we spend an evening learning about entrepreneurship, and receive a primer on starting a consulting enterprise. Many professionals, including engineers and geoscientists, have experience and skills that can be a strong base for starting their own company. Being an entrepreneur can be very rewarding, with the right planning and execution. This interactive session will review the important aspects of setting up a business and address relevant questions about being an entrepreneur.

About the Presenter

Darren Frew, DTM, P.Geo. (retired), has provided mentorship and delivered funding support programs to start-up businesses in BC's high-tech sector since 1992. Professionally, he has worked with government-supported funding organizations including the Science Council of BC, NRC's Industrial Research Assistance Program, and BC Bioenergy Network. As well, Darren is a committed volunteer—he has been a mentor with the MBA program at UBC's Sauder School of Business and with the Student Biotechnology Network. Darren presently offers mentorship to students and start-up businesses on an ad-hoc basis.

Darren is active as a speaker and trainer. He has attained Distinguished Toastmaster status with Toastmasters International in BC. Darren speaks regularly to diverse audiences on a variety of topics. He has been a guest speaker with the Vancouver Branch of Engineers and Geoscientists BC on 6 different occasions.
