Please join us for an engaging presentation about the engineering elements of the Water Supply Project .

Work under this project includes significant changes to the city's potable water supply system. These changes include the creation of a new deep water lake intake, a new pump station, and treatment building which is now connected to the city's existing water transmission and distribution system. It is connected by way of 3.5 km of a large diameter welded steel water transmission piping. This project was necessary as a direct result of the BC Hydro John Hart Redevelopment Project as the existing BC Hydro penstocks and corresponding water system supply connections will be decommissioned by late 2018.

The city and BC Hydro have developed a project plan that sees a new water transmission line installed on Highway 28 from John Hart Lake to the city’s John Hart Water Quality Centre at the bottom of General Hill. This pipeline will deliver potable water from the new pump station and treatment building constructed at John Hart Lake to all water customers in the region. This will allow for the relocation of the existing ultra-violet and chlorination facilities into the new building and will provide the city with a much more robust and updated system better positioned to meet the city’s water supply current and future demands.
