Earth science students are invited to join us for a seminar on professional registration and careers in geoscience.

Presentation Topics

First, the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Student Program Coordinator will give a brief overview of the registration process to become a geoscientist-in-training (GIT) or professional geoscientist (P.Geo.). Afterwards, geoscientists from the Victoria region will present on working in different aspects of BC's geoscience industry.

This event is meant for University of Victoria Earth and Ocean Sciences students. However, Engineers and Geoscientists BC members, members-in-training, and the public are welcome to attend. Online registration is required for this event.

Speakers

Jo Price, P.Geo.

VP Exploration, K2 Gold Corp

Jo is an independent geological consultant to a number of junior mining and exploration companies with more than 18 years in the field, including 9 years in project management. She has worked on multiple gold, poly-metallic, vanadium, and graphite projects in the USA, Australia, and Canada. Jo has a Bachelor of Science in Geology (1995) from the University of Wales, College of Cardiff, and a Master of Science in Geology (1997) from Dalhousie University in Halifax, and an MBA (2017) from Royal Roads. Jo is a professional geologist registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). During her career, Jo has managed multi-million dollar exploration programs overseeing technical direction, budgets, and operations. She has extensive experience in field operations, drill programs, technical database administration, land management, and exploration permitting in multiple jurisdictions.

Originally from Birmingham, England, Jo immigrated to Canada in 1995 to study some of Canada’s rocks. After 5 years based in Halifax, Jo moved to Alberta to join a group of junior mining companies. During her 15 years in Alberta, she developed a passion for the exploration and mining business despite the challenging and frequently tough market conditions. Following Alberta, she spent 4 years based in Fairbanks, Alaska, working on various arctic projects before settling in Victoria in the summer of 2015.
