Seminar Description

This course will introduce the fundamental knowledge required to design, engineer, and build solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in BC.

Learning Objectives

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • How it works,
  • How to calculate the yield,
  • What are the most current technologies available,
  • How to improve system efficiency,
  • How much does it cost,
  • How to calculate financial returns, and
  • How to maintain it.

Anyone interested in the various aspects of solar PV: design, implementation, installation, policies, financial, etc.

Michel de Spot, P.Eng.

President and CEO, EcoSmart Foundation

Michel is the co-founder, current president and CEO of the EcoSmart Foundation, (www.ecosmart.ca and www.ecosmartsun.com), a not-for-profit organisation that helps to implement green practices and clean technologies with a focus on solar energy.

He is a past-president of the Sustainability Committee of the Engineers and Geoscientists BC, a LEED accredited professional, and the co-chair of the Clean Energy BC (CEBC) solar committee.

Michel has extensive experience in solar energy and was the main driver behind ‘SunMine’, the first large-scale solar PV plant in BC. SunMine won numerous awards including APEGBC’s Sustainability Award and the prestigious ‘Engineers Canada Award for outstanding Engineering project.’
