Local geologist, Ed Frey, will lead a field trip to examine the rocks and landforms that form some of the diverse geological environments of Kamloops. The field trip will focus on the record of physical processes that operated through the depth of geological time as well as catastrophic events. Geology as a science will be explored and its place in our society. A school bus will transport the group to six sites and one drive-by viewing. Participants should wear appropriate shoes for minimal amount of walking. Boots are not required and flip-flops should not be worn. Attendees should dress appropriately for the weather. Participants are invited to bring a mineral, rock or fossil for identification at the end of the day.

This fieldtrip is part of the volunteer conducted education outreach program of the Kamloops Exploration Group. For more information visit their website here: www.keg.ca.

About the Speaker

Ed moved to Kamloops in 1996 from northern Ontario, where he mapped volcanic terranes and the glacial record throughout the Precambrian shield for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS). With the OGS he was Wawa District Staff Geologist and entered the private sector in 1990 as a mineral exploration geologist, primarily in BC and Ontario. He enjoys teaching and has been a geology lab instructor at TRU and Douglas College. Today he is semi-retired with exploration projects in Ontario and locally conducts school presentations, field trips, and public mineral and rock identification sessions through the outreach program of the Kamloops Exploration Group.
