Event Description


This session will provide an overview of the purpose of a seal, which documents require sealing, who is permitted to seal, and how to apply a seal. This session will also discuss the difference between digitally and manually authenticated documents as well as appropriate ways to manage, protect, and deliver each.

  • The document contains information resulting from the practice of professional engineering or professional geoscience.
  • The document is complete for its intended purpose.
  • The document will be relied upon by others (whether for bidding, permitting, construction, implementation, use, or other reliance).

Dan Rankin, P.Eng.

Practice Advisor, Engineers and Geoscientists BC

Dan Rankin, P.Eng., is a Practice Advisor with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. Dan is responsible for managing the development of the organization's professional practice guidelines, engaging with various stakeholders to address professional practice concerns, and for providing advice to registrants regarding practice issues. Dan provides staff support to the Software Engineering Advisory Group. Dan is a professional engineer and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Mechanical) from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Applied Science (Aerospace) from the University of Toronto. Prior to joining Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Dan spent over 14 years working in multi-disciplinary roles on satellite mission projects, including as a software developer, operations engineer, and project engineer.

Lina Bowser

Manager, Regulation of Firms Training, Engineers and Geoscientists BC

Lina is responsible for the Regulation of Firms Permit to Practice training programs. She is one of the primary Regulation of Firms Instructors, is an ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor, and one of the Regulation of Firms assessors. Lina brings over 20 years experience working in a regulatory capacity having been previously involved with the Practice Review and Organizational Quality Management Programs.
