Please join the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Division for their 2021 Annual General Meeting. This is a great opportunity to meet the outgoing and incoming executive members, learn about the past year's activities, and share your ideas for the upcoming year. The AGM will take place virtually and meeting information will be sent out 24 hours prior to the event.

This year's AGM will include a guest speaker on Building-Integrated Photovoltaics: Transitioning to Energy-generating Building Envelope Components in Canada.

Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs) are photovoltaic materials that produce electricity while replacing conventional building components such as roofs, skylights, windows, canopies, and shading devices. Compared to building-applied photovoltaics, BIPVs fulfill one or multiple functions of the building envelope including primary weather protection, daylighting, safety or shading. While the number of BIPV projects in Canada is limited, interest in BIPV is growing as a solution to decarbonisation of the building sector while also pushing the boundaries of traditional architectural designs. This presentation will give an overview of the technology and its development both internationally and nationally, examples of BIPV implementation in Canadian buildings, updates on BIPV standards and codes, and the latest in research and development.

Véronique Delisle

Project Manager, Renewable Energy Integration Program at the CanmetENERGY research centre of Natural Resources Canada.

Véronique leads projects related to the characterization and controls of flexible loads, the integration of renewable energy technologies in smart cities and communities, as well as the integration of photovoltaics in buildings. From 2010 to 2015, she was one of the Canadian representatives of the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling programme (IEA SHC) Task 40/Energy and buildings (EBC) Annex 52 on Net Zero Energy Solar Buildings. She has published journal articles and conference papers on the performance characterization, modeling, and optimization of BIPV roofs, semi-transparent PV, and BIPV systems with thermal energy recovery (BIPVT). She has also been leading government research in BIPV and BIPVT as part of several projects. She is currently a Canadian representative in the IEA Photovoltaic and Power Systems Programme (PVPS) Task 15 on BIPV focusing on pre-standardization work.
